Before I Tell You What's Up, Let Me Tell You A Story

As a teenager, I had a dream to compose music, and write songs. It was overwhelming, and so I began studying music and ended up making a few beats that were meh. 11 years later, I started selling music to YouTubers, and indie-game developers on a freelance platform I am not going to name.

On this platform, I found a few red flags -

  1. hiring for services, but get paid in exposure...putting helpers above new sellers.
  2. mods reading DMs between seller and buyer.
  3. taking too much money from sales.
  4. charging buyers fees.
  5. scamming big sellers for thousands of dollars.

I had enough. After learning what this site had done to their sellers, and nitpicking their sellers. I decided to leave.

How I Learned This

One day on this platform, I decided to join the forum community. Within the forums, they were hiring moderators but will not pay in money, but paid with exposure. At first, I thought it was fair until I learned that this will actually knock down the room for new sellers who are struggling with advertising. People who get the most sales either provide services to this platform, were moderators, or founding members.

Buyers typically look for services that are right in front of everybody else. I figured this was an unfair advantage to the rest of the sellers who were equally as talented and trustworthy as they were. It's hard to say if these sellers earned their spots for their volunteer work. But it is easy to say, it is unfair as this was an opportunity for freelancers to get jobs.

After continuously using this platform, one day I came on and my gig was gone. The message I received was that I must not include that I had many perfect scores from a few of my customers. After I took that bit out and adjusted the unproblematic description of my gig, it was denied. Angered, and confused, I had to contact them directly. This staff member, someone who actually got paid for working there apologized and stated they did not know why my gig was deleted in the first place. My gig was republished, and accessible to my customers.

After weeks of not receiving customers, I started to increasingly dislike this platform. I didn't like that people were eyeballing my interaction with buyers. I didn't like having chunks of money taken out of my sales. I didn't like that people were put before me when they clearly did not build their gig themselves. So I started to research for people who also disliked this platform.

Then I found a YouTuber who freelanced filming meme videos. A top seller on this platform, and became an official to this platform. However, their entire account was permanently deleted from this platform with vague reasoning. "Asking for people's credit card information" After he appealed this, it was denied. After accepting the platform did not understand meme jokes, and got downright ghosted from this company, he demanded that buyers were refunded for their orders and that the rest of his sales were paid.

This platform refunded the buyers, but not the fees. This platform also did not give this man's money back!

What I Decided To Do About It

There was no way I could support this platform anymore. They've taken so much of my money. They've put volunteers above me. They deleted my gig. And they have stolen thousands of dollars. So I deleted my account with them.

But, I needed to freelance. It was good extra money. So, I started my own platform. An entire website is dedicated to me. But, I realized...not every buyer is looking for me. They might be looking for a different quality...

I have friends who are freelancers that are looking for work. And I know people are looking for freelancers - but, I didn't want another freelance platform. I wanted a platform where eyes stay out of DMs. I wanted a platform where freelancers feel like it's their business. I wanted a platform that focused on being a library of freelancers and HELPED freelancers with the necessary tools. I wanted a platform where freelancers felt like they had opportunities. I wanted a platform where freelances had a chance! So, I am making that happen.

NO FEES, NO CHARGES. Runs on donations. Safe for your WORK.

What's Up?

I am building a platform that focuses on freedom, fairness, and being a hub for buyers and sellers.

If you are a freelancer and would like to be included in a database with other freelancers please DM me, and I will invite you to our community.

If you are a buyer and would like connections to freelancers, please DM me and I will bring you to our community.

Thanks for reading the whole thing. Much love!

I think I deserve a gold star. I am usually pretty antisocial and awkward. But I reviewed 50 songs and made 54 posts.

I hereby award myself with the 'stfu already' badge

Visual Kei cured my depression, but it's dying:

When I was younger at the age of 15, my parents split up. I was the second youngest if you consider my step sister. My older brother and sister moved. I was the only sibling left, and loneliness put me in a depressive state of mind. I resort to online gaming and communities. I felt less lonely this way. I also played with FL studio a lot, and did a decent job with electronica music. One a day a friend showed me a Jrock song called Sky Limit by Yohio. It was shocking to see a man look prettier than most girls. His voice was very iconic. It was like an anime in live action. I then discovered his band, Seremedy. I was so inspired by this movement. The movement that is Visual Kei.

I wanted to express myself, and bring out the characters that were inside. I studied exotic music, and learned more about compositions until It match to what I wanted out of it. I then went onto vocals. All of this took 8 hours in my room, for a couple of years. I then created a persona of myself; Yukki Honoka. My alter-ego.

Life was great, until the views of new release of visual kei went down from millions to thousands. Many bands were disbanding including Seremedy. YOHIO created his own record label, but that failed to succeed. Eventually YOHIO stopped releasing new music until very recently, and it's the same. It's came clear to me that he's trying to reach westerner audience more.

I am the only soloist, visual-kei artist on NG, knowningly. There's a former visual-kei band called Tamala Park Book Club who are no visual rock artists. Having to give up the movement would put me in a bad place. I already been off and on depressed determining what is the point.

What can I do to help?

Visual-Kei formed because Japan is the biggest uniformed country. If you were going to work, chances are you are wearing a uniform. This movement is about expressing inner character. It is a very important movement. If you could please spread the word about me and my friends over at Tamala Park Book Club, that'd be great. (And if you could include that we're visual-kei artists, that'd be awesome).

Listen to visual-kei artists on spotify. Tamala Park Book Club and I have our own spotifies. If you can search us on there you can stream our music and we'll be paid by the ads. Share our links from NG, spotify, apple music, YouTube, we would appreciate you.

This week has been one of the best when it involves my music. I started back when I was 14. I am 23 years old now. I always made instrumentals (and my first pieces were 🗑) Then when I turned 16 I wanted to sing my songs. I wasn't good but I thrivwd to try harder. After school I studied singing and music composition. I discovered new music and sound, visual kei where I was inspired by YOHIO. I always liked music in this sound so I wanted to start making music this way. I learned piano, finally. My voice got better, and my compositions improved. I had one problem. Equipment. I had no money to record. Although I trid using my phone...the quality just wasn't there. So all of my songs were left unfinished and I lost hope. Then I got motivation a month ago to finish Dreaming of You a song I wrote in 2014 after I graduated H.S. I posted a demo and you all had a lot to say about it. Over compressed, the rhythm was off, and the vocals were too harsh. I felt down but I knew the skills were still there I just had to try harder. So I came out with the official version. So many listens and it made me feel overwhelmed and happy. I always wanted people to hear me. I want to inspire and motivate people like YOHIO did to me. Thank you all who shares the song around because if it wasn't for you guys, I wouldn't have many listens. Thanks fpr the chance to be on popular audio. I want to make music my job. Right now I can confirm I am on spotify just search Riy0 dreaming of you and you'll find me. I never thought spotify would actually approve my song to be on their store, and it shocked me when I saw myself on there. I am not sure if I am allowed to direct link yall there but if you can add me to your playlist, and share me on spotify so I can get a decent follow and keep uo with new music that'd be awesome. I love you all for giving me a chance.

Also thanks to all who have critiqued the quality who made aware that the mix was really bad. If I didnt have the extra ears I wouldnt know what I was doing.

I have someone who is willing to help me with guitars so new song is in the works. I am not sure if I'll release full tracks on ng anymore to give my spotify a point but I will still post previews if I do decide not to.

I just wanna say thanks for all the people who gave me feedback, and that's not just people in Newgrounds. Those who came to me on my personal FB page to tell me some things sounded like s***, thank you as well. :)

The official version took time to finish, but it's done! I hope you enjoy it. I put a lot of energy in this song.

So I had a lot of feedback on my demo. Thanks for those who commented there. I had most of the feedback from my personal FB. Lots of people like the chorus singing. Almost everyone hated the verse vocals ( I did have bronchitis and tried my best, and just was impossible but I really wanted feedback).

I had feedback by some band geeks too who had a lot of experience in recording. First off, the song had composition errors. It was not the best arrangement. After realizing that; you can hear it out fo rhythm. So I fixed that. The rhytm is a bit faster.

Secondly, the verse just seems odd to me. At first I thought itd fit, then I realized it doesn't really stay in tuned with the song and it has a weak melody. So I rewrote that. I also rewrote the bridge and I added a "outro" I guess to the song to resolve it.

Lastly, the structure has imrpoved. I made the structure similar to one of my favorite songs "Without Wings" by YOHIO which was the original inspiration of this song. Even though the song is kow faster paced than the demo, I extended it to 5:30 mins. 😂

Anyways, I don't have a deadline. I am being super strict about vocals. I am rrying to get it perfect as humanly possible meaning I want to be organic of course, so I am recording takes after takes instead of using pitch correction.

Do you like anime or Japanese culture? Well, I compose Japanese-sounding songs. When I say Japanese sounding I mean for people who don't know music terms. Really, I compose from Japanese scales which gives my song that sound which is usually heard from westerners through anime or JRPGs.

Well, if you like anything from above that I have mentioned give me a chance and help make my dream come true. All I want is to know you are there. It helps me to continue this journey. I really wanna make it through my project, and I am reaching out to any who are willing to listen to my music. I put a lot of soul into it! In return if you need anything for me to see of your work I will do so.

I am also seeing that the Audio Portal is alive and well. :)
